Location matters as much as star label

In Munnar, a scenic plantation resort can be far from the town and add time to every sightseeing day. In Kochi, Fort Kochi, Ernakulam and airport-side hotels serve very different purposes. In Kovalam, “near beach” can still mean a steep or indirect walk. Compare map location before accepting a hotel solely because of category.

For Wayanad and Thekkady, remote nature settings can be excellent but may reduce access to restaurants, pharmacies or evening transport.

Houseboats are a separate accommodation type

An Alappuzha houseboat should not be compared with a normal hotel room only by star category. Confirm boat type, private/shared arrangement, cruise schedule, meals, air-conditioning, room layout, child policy, crew and boarding point.

If mobility or medical access is important, a backwater resort plus day cruise may be more practical than an overnight boat.

Before confirming a package

Ask for hotel names or “same/similar” rules, room type, bed configuration, meal plan, child/extra-bed policy, check-in/check-out times, parking/driver arrangements and any mandatory seasonal supplements.

If a named hotel changes after booking, request a replacement of comparable location and category, not just any property with a similar headline rating.
