How many days in Jodhpur
One full sightseeing day can cover Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and part of the old city. Two nights are more comfortable if you also want Umaid Bhawan Palace museum, Mandore, a Bishnoi-area experience, relaxed shopping or a slower evening around the Clock Tower and Sardar Market.
If you arrive after a long road sector, treat the arrival day as a lighter evening rather than trying to squeeze the fort and old city into the final hours of the day.
Plan Jodhpur by area
Mehrangarh and Jaswant Thada form the strongest heritage cluster. The Clock Tower and Sardar Market work well as a separate old-city walking block. Umaid Bhawan Palace lies in another part of the city, while Mandore is farther out and needs additional road time.
The Blue City is best appreciated on foot in selected lanes and viewpoints; a car cannot provide the same experience in narrow old-city areas.
How to reach Jodhpur
Jodhpur has air, rail and road access. Rajasthan Tourism places the airport close to the city and lists strong road and rail connections with major destinations. For JaipurโJodhpur, rail can be attractive when the timetable suits; for JodhpurโJaisalmer, private road travel is common and straightforward.
Check actual train or flight timings for your date rather than selecting a route only because a service exists in general.
Jodhpur to Jaisalmer or Udaipur
Rajasthan Tourism lists Jaisalmer about 286 km from Jodhpur and Udaipur about 257 km away. Both are significant transfer sectors. Choose the direction that fits your overall circuit instead of returning through Jodhpur repeatedly.
For a desert-focused trip, continue to Jaisalmer. For lakes, Mewar heritage or a route toward Mount Abu and Gujarat, continue to Udaipur.
Practical Jodhpur tips
Mehrangarh can take several hours if you enjoy museums and viewpoints. Wear practical footwear and allow for heat and exposed walking areas. Old-city market lanes are busiest around commercial hours, so build some flexibility into your plan.
Hotel location matters: old-city properties may offer atmosphere and views but sometimes have tighter vehicle access, while newer areas can make transfers and parking easier.
For shopping and food, the Clock Tower/Sardar Market area is convenient for a short evening walk, but allow extra time if you want to browse handicrafts, spices, textiles or local snacks rather than treating the market as a five-minute photo stop.
