Rajasthan distance chart

Route Reference distance Allow roughly Best use
Jaipur–Ajmer 132–133 km 2.5–3.5 hr Easy central-Rajasthan transfer; continue to Pushkar if required.
Jaipur–Pushkar 145 km 3–4 hr Works well for a short Jaipur + Pushkar route.
Jodhpur–Jaisalmer 286 km 5–6 hr Main western-desert corridor.
Jodhpur–Udaipur 257 km 4.5–5.5 hr Useful Marwar–Mewar connection.
Jodhpur–Pushkar 186 km 3.5–4.5 hr Good link between western Rajasthan and Ajmer–Pushkar.
Pushkar–Ajmer 15–17 km 30–45 min These two destinations can share one route day.
Jaipur–Ranthambore / Sawai Madhopur about 167 km 3.5–4.5 hr Plan around safari reporting time, not only hotel check-in.
Udaipur–Mount Abu 163 km 3.5–4.5 hr Natural southern-Rajasthan pairing.
Jaisalmer–Bikaner 330 km 5.5–6.5 hr Long desert-sector transfer.
Jodhpur–Mount Abu 270 km 5–6 hr Long transfer; keep sightseeing light on arrival.

How to read the time ranges

The time ranges include a reasonable allowance for normal road travel but not unusually heavy city traffic, major diversions, long meal stops or weather disruption. Hotel-to-hotel distance can also differ from city-centre reference distance.

On a long transfer day, keep the arrival plan simple. A 5–6 hour road sector plus hotel check-in and lunch is rarely compatible with a full fort, palace or safari programme.

When rail may be better than road

Rail can be attractive on routes where a convenient train saves a long road day, especially when travelling with children or older family members. Compare the actual station-to-hotel time and train schedule before deciding. A nominally faster train is not always better if it leaves or arrives at an inconvenient hour.

For Ajmer, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Abu Road and Sawai Madhopur, rail can be particularly useful depending on your wider itinerary.

Golden Triangle connection

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur form the Golden Triangle. Jaipur is the Rajasthan gateway in that route; Delhi and Agra sit outside Rajasthan. From Jaipur, continue into Rajasthan only if you have enough time for the next city rather than adding Jodhpur or Udaipur as a rushed extension.

As a road-day rule, keep major sightseeing before a long transfer or after it—not both. If a sector needs around five hours on the road, plan only a light evening on arrival. For safari reporting times, timed train or flight departures and early monument visits, build extra margin rather than using the shortest map estimate.
